Waiting on God

It’s in our human nature to rather not wait. Being in a queue is probably one of the most undesirable forms of waiting. It is even more painful when after hours of waiting for your turn you’re told to come at another date.

As children of God, even waiting on God can be such a daunting and unpleasant experience. We oftentimes wish that as soon as we make a request it is granted. But God has His way of doing things. His ways are not our ways.

““And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it.” Deuteronomy 10:12-14 NKJV

The Lord requires us to fear Him and follow His ways, obeying His commandments with all our heart and soul. The heavens and the earth belong to our a father and when we follow His ways we delight him and then He blessing us with the good things that pertain to life and godliness.

“He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.” … “But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them.” Psalms 103:7, 17-18 NKJV

God’s ways are what He likes, what He desires of us. You ought to always ask Him to show you His ways so that you can prosper and flourish in Him.

“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.””Exodus 33:13 NKJV

You can discover the ways of God through prayer. This type of prayer is not just to seek our own but to seek His will. This is not the I like it, I want it, I need it so give it to me kind of prayer. Some even quite scripture and will be decreeing and declaring that God should give them what they deserve. Rather this is a prayer of humility.

““Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you.” Deuteronomy 28:47-48 NKJV

Reasons why you can’t wait on God:

1. You can’t pray on your own. Now many only rely on corporate prayers, especially those held online. Barring that, they have no personal prayer life.

2. You have no stamina for spiritual things. You see it as a chore and easily get bored or tired.

3. You are intelligent but not spiritual.

4. You have no time to pray because you are always busy doing other things.

5. You don’t have anywhere to wait on God. “And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples.” John 18:2 NKJV. Our Lord Jesus had a special place He dedicated to prayer.

6. You don’t know how to wait on God.

7. You don’t know the implications of not waiting on God.

“For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.” Isaiah 64:4 NKJV

Learn to wait on God and follow His ways. And while you wait, serve. And while you serve, rejoice. May God grant us the grace to flow in Him. Stay blessed.

With Love, Esinam.
