Pursuing Purpose (1)

What do you do? This is a harmless question that we often get asked in conversation from both acquaintances and strangers alike. Imagine yourself at a party or a meeting where someone approaches you and asks, “what do you do?”

What’s your answer likely going to be? What is the context of your answer. Is it what you do for a living? Is it what occupies most of your time? And what time frame is your answer in? Is your answer based on what you’re doing presently?

A woman was once asked, “What do you do?”. Her response went something like this, “I am a follower of Christ cleverly disguised as a mom, a wife and a business woman”. It was quite surprising because it wasn’t the usual answer expected for such a basic question. What would have been your response to the same question she was asked, “What do you do?”

As you think on this question, reflect on how answering it could help you discover your divine purpose. How aware are you of eternity and its impact on your daily life and everyday choices?

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Everything we see, have and are comes from the Lord. All things were made because of Him and will return to Him. No one can measure the wealth of our God nor measure His divine wisdom. No one knows the thoughts of God nor gives Him advice. He has however given us a sense of who He is so we can get to know Him better through His word.

Obediently pursue God and express your adoration to Him as you contemplate on your life and purpose. How does having an eternal perspective shape your earthly purpose? That mysterious longing in your heart cannot be satisfied by anything under the sun.

“Yes! God is very great! He has everything! He knows and he understands all things! Nobody can completely understand the things that he decides. Nobody can explain the ways in which he works.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭33‬ ‭EASY‬‬

No one can know everything God has in His plan else He ceases to be God. Your divine purpose is to give your whole heart and soul to knowing God, pursuing Him and bringing Him glory. How do you experience Him in your life in this moment? How are you pursuing Him? What are you doing now to bring glory to an eternal God? What are you doing today to express your love to an eternal God?

“All things have been entrusted and delivered to Me by My Father; and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Son except the Father, and no one fully knows and accurately understands the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son deliberately wills to make Him known. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Based on the passage above, it is important that we continually look up to our Lord Jesus Christ and desire to dwell in His presence so He can make known to us His Father. Every breath you take is in fulfillment of your purpose. Do not be afraid for He is with you. Do not be dismayed for He is your God. He will strengthen you and help you and uphold you by His righteous right hand.

Your purpose can be achieved by the things that you consistently do, your lifestyle. Focus on eternity and allow God to use you help others also pursue Him. Continually fix your gaze on God and ask Him to reveal to you the sense of your divine purpose according to His will.

With Love,

Esinam.
