As believers, our lives are called to reflect the nature and character of God in every way. This goes beyond outward actions—it includes our thoughts, attitudes, words, and even the posture of our hearts. Scripture reminds us to “be holy in all your conduct” because God Himself is holy (1 Peter 1:15–16). Every part of our lives should align with His will and bring glory to His name.
One of the greatest hindrances to spiritual growth is unforgiveness and bitterness. Hurt and pain can run deep, but when we hold tightly to offense, we unknowingly give the enemy room to operate in our hearts (Ephesians 4:26–27). True resistance against the devil is not merely loud declarations or outward aggression—it is also seen in a life that remains surrendered and aligned with God’s purpose despite pain, disappointment, or offense.
The Bible warns us that the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). He is subtle and cunning in his operations. Often, he does not attempt destruction all at once, but gradually plants seeds of doubt, fear, compromise, and unbelief, much like the enemy who sowed tares among wheat in the parable Jesus shared (Matthew 13:24–30). Jesus also reminds us that the thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but He has come that we may have life abundantly (John 10:10).
Because of this, discernment and wisdom are essential for every believer. Not every thought, ideology, trend, or belief system that the world promotes aligns with the truth of God’s Word. We are living in times where deception is widespread, and many voices compete for our attention and allegiance. Scripture cautions us: “Let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). Our walk with God is not only about starting well, but also about finishing faithfully.
The Apostle Paul spoke confidently about finishing his race and keeping the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). As children of our Heavenly Father, our eyes must remain fixed on the ultimate goal—to know Him, obey Him, and please Him. We cannot afford to allow the distractions, temptations, or schemes of the enemy to shift our focus away from Christ (Hebrews 12:1–2).

Resisting the devil is deeply connected to guarding our hearts. Scripture instructs us to “guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). Our beliefs shape our perceptions, our words reveal what fills our hearts, and our actions reflect what we truly value. This is why it is so important to continually fill our hearts and minds with the Word of God.
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He responded to every temptation with Scripture (Matthew 4:1–11). The Word of God was His defense and His weapon. In the same way, the more God’s Word is written upon our hearts, the more equipped we become to discern truth, reject deception, and stand firm against the enemy’s schemes. You know how the electrical parts of a car’s engine has sensors such that when there is a fault, a sensor signal flashes on the dashboard or a fuse disconnects to preserve the undamaged functioning parts of the the engine. Our hearts must be so sensitive to send us signals when anything foreign to the word of God which deviates from His instructions is channeled our way.

Victory over the enemy does not come from fear or striving, but from abiding in Christ, remaining rooted in His Word, and walking in obedience to His Spirit. May our hearts be so anchored in God’s truth, such that we are not only able to resist the devil—but that we are able to overcome him completely through the authority and victory we have in Christ Jesus.
With Love, Esinam.
